can dogs get mono
Infectious Monkey: More than the 'disease disease'Infectious mononucleosis, or monkey, is often called the "bearing disease disease" because the virus can be easily transmitted by kisses. Although the most common way for the virus to spread is, by the way, through the saliva, you don't have to kiss someone with an active strain of it to get it. It can also be transmitted through activities such as the exchange of drinks and the use of other person's utensils, or through blood and other body fluids. Being exposed to the monkey does not guarantee the appearance of symptoms, especially if it is exposed as a child. "Many people have the virus in their system throughout their lives without symptoms," says Rob Danoff, DO, an osteopathic family doctor. "This is especially true for young children as the fever (often persistent) can be the only symptom. We can only confirm if they were exposed and had the virus in them through a blood test. Many people have the Epstein-Barr virus in their system throughout their lives without symptoms. Many people have the Epstein-Barr virus in their system throughout their lives without symptoms. In fact, most people have been exposed to the virus at the time they reach the middle age, with most of the acquisition of infection during childhood and more typical severe symptoms during the teenage years. Mono is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which is a type of herpes virus and one of the most common human viruses. Other viruses in the herpes family cause cold sores and diseases like chickenpox. Epstein-Barr signs, symptoms Sometimes the first indication that a person may have a monkey is an eruption that develops after taking amoxicillin or ampicilline antibiotics. These antibiotics are used for bacterial diseases and are frequently incorporated into treatment when a bacterial cause of sore throat is suspected to be prior to diagnosis. Unusual fatigue is a very common early symptom of monkey. "Often the person says 'Doc, I'm sleeping a lot but still tired and doesn't feel like I'm doing too much'," says Dr. Danoff. Sometimes the monkey can be confused with the flu or throat of the strep because the symptoms are so similar, but with the monkey, fatigue and other symptoms can continue for weeks or even months before an individual recovers completely. Once a person is infected with the Epstein-Barr virus there is a time of delay, or incubation period, during which the virus is multiplying in the body. This can last several weeks and the patient can be asymptomatic all the time, although it can still spread the virus to others. People who receive symptoms of EBV can expect them to last two to four weeks, although some may feel fatigued for several weeks or months. Once the virus is in your body, it remains there in an inactive state. If it is reactivated, it can potentially spread to others regardless of how long it has been since the initial infection. Monkey symptoms may include: Treatment and Prevention There is no specific treatment for EBV besides relieving symptoms by staying hydrated, resting a lot and taking over-the-counter medications for pain and fever. There is also no vaccine to protect against EBV infection, but there are ways to lower your risk of monkey, according to Dr. Danoff, program director of the Family Medicine Residence and the combined programs of Family Medicine/Emergency Medicine Residence at Jefferson Health Northeast in Philadelphia. He believes and encourages his patients to take care of his health. Ways to reduce the risk of monkey: Focus on preventive care, consider how environmental and lifestyle factors affect your health. They also partner with their patients to help them get healthy and stay well. CategoryAOA Headquarters Stay in touch
